The time has finally come for us to begin planting in the Tequesquite Community Garden (TCG). Saturday morning, we had a crew to work on installing the drip lines for the trees and the electrical lines for the irrigation controls. By next Saturday, we should have the drip system installed so that the trees can be watered by drip. We also will try get get a large quantity of wood chips to mulch around the trees. We are trying to get as much work done as possible before the Grand Opening of the Ryan Bonaminio Park on June 29. We will use this opportunity to promote the TCG so that we can get more people to participate in it.
For those who are able, it would be appreciated if you could come to work with us in the garden so that we can begin building our orchard. We have about 100 trees to begin the planting and eventually hope to have almost 200 trees in the garden.
Planting the trees will require a group of about 15 to 20 people to help move the trees to the garden, dig the holes, amend the soil and plant the trees. We also need to do some grading to get the soil leveled around the trees and will need to complete work on the irrigation water and electrical lines so the drip can be turned on. If we have enough help, we should be able to do the work in three or so hours so we will not need to work too long in the heat. We will begin work at 7 AM.
If you come to work with us next Saturday, please be sure to wear a head-covering, hard shoes (no sandals) and water. Also if you have a shovel or rake, it would help to have your own tools to use.
Thanks for helping us build this exciting new garden - the first in a planned city park here in Riverside.
